Spiders, Sentinel, Skewing the Curve
Spiders in the bathtub: How do spiders that size get into the house? Or if they were already inside (!), where have they been hiding? This torments my arachnophobia.

The Sentinel: Found some worthwhile Slash for a change this weekend, by Alyjude. Read lots. :0 At least there's no animalistic biting or licking or naked co-sleeping or pheremone-fu seduction that its author is calling Gen. For contrast, see what I'll call Train-wreck 'verse, brought to my attention by klangely56. Ah, research... ;)

Weirdness meter: How many of us love that "slash" as an LJ Interest makes you "herdlike"? Only on Live Journal.

However, when I added a freaky fake interest of "panniculus phobia" (brought to mind by a certain scene in Borat, which... eye bleach!), my "uniqueness" level went from 0% to 3%. I'll just bet...

Ohh, Alyjude is one of my favourite TS writers.

What kind of stories do you prefer? I'm a sucker for happy endings and I just can't handle death stories or partner betrayal.

:D I happened on her accidentally, but I was really pleased with what I found. There was someone else on fanfiction.net I liked too, PsychGirl.

I like Slash, with hotness, humor and/or schmoop (any or all). I prefer it when the guys still seem like guys, even if they're romantic (if that makes sense. Not all femmy and gushing). And not majorly kinky, because I'm kind of Vanilla aside from the slash. :D

Death and betrayal kind of break the OTP for me no matter the fandom, so I'm not big on those either! I can tolerate them better in a Gen setting, actually-- in a romantic setting, they pretty much kill me. I'm kind of a "soulmate" sort of person, and losing the soulmate is like losing yourself.

Does that help? :)

Lol yeah that makes sense.

My vary first TS slash story I ever read was Bone's Territorial Imperative series. I really liked it. Infact I read this before I ever saw the series.

If you haven't found her Jack Ruben Darcy's stories are some of my absolute favourites.

Then there is Annabelle Leigh.

I also like a lot of CandyApple's stories. She does sometimes deal with non-con so make sure to read warnings. The boys tend to get worked over the coals during the stories but, she does always give you a happy ending.

Lanning Cook has some great stuff.

Those are a few that just pop into my head as some of my favs from TS. You may have found them already. Most of them can be found at 852 also ( which as one point was my homepage I checked it so often).

At least there's no animalistic biting or licking or naked co-sleeping or pheremone-fu seduction that its author is calling Gen.

Wait, does that mean there aren't any of those things or that they're labelled properly as 'slash'? ... 'cuz I'm not really opposed to those elements. Do-de-do-do-do...

Weirdness meter: How many of us love that "slash" as an LJ Interest makes you "herdlike"? Only on Live Journal.

I, for one, adore that. :D

I'm very sorry to hear of your spider troubles. Is your husband a spider killing type of guy? More often than not, I'm the one who has to kill/liberate the spiders. That's what I get for loving effete intellectuals with excellent bone structure and an aversion to manual labour. Wait, what was my point? Oh, right - I'm sorry about your bathtub spider. I don't know how they get in, either. :(

Well, the particular stories I read have only the naked co-sleeping, which I'd expect.

It's all those things-- including Blair flaunting his naked body at Jim to trigger the desire to bond RightHereRightNow, bonding heat included-- that are truly a bizarre thing to attempt to sell as "Gen." Those are all in the Train Wreck stories I linked, where there's just no way to NOT read those as unfulfilled Slash (and frustratingly so, at that). :0

For the spiders, I'll scoop them up in Kleenex and flush them. They're rarely too... 3D... for me to manage that anymore. Can't stand squashing them, though-- I'm far too squeamish.

I ran into one at the women's locker room at work that was huge-- body the size of a nickel. :0 Another woman lent me her tennis shoe to kill it, and I threw the shoe at the spider (again, no direct squashing).

How horrifying is it that, although dead, the spider was so enormous that it was cosmetically undamaged after that? Yick!

Oh, I love Alyjude's stuff! Love the series where Blair gets custody of a little boy (Jake). Another great writer is Dolimir. Also, Ceares. Great stuff!! I normally don't like AUs too much, but that fandom has some really great ones. And their slash ROCKS!
Fate3fates3 on June 10th, 2007 03:44 am (UTC)
Dang, you can't really tell with the coding there, but I gave you links to Dolimir and Ceares' stuff with their names there. Just roll over your mouse and you will see them come up.

:D Thanks for the extra links!

I'm making my way through more of Alyjude, and yesterday randomly hit on something by another author that was-- horrors-- futuristic "Gen" (hahahaha!) where Blair is Jim's foster son, and there is just boatloads of spanking. Allllll through that universe, and not just those two. When you've got the foster father spanking his teenaged foster son again and again-- sometimes stroking the bare, pink skin afterwards-- I'm back to thinking that you're working a Slash fetish, and that you should just commit to it, you know? Because that parent/child dynamic (an excuse for spanking and cuddly affection, apparently, in these particular stories) with those sexual undertones is just... creepy. :0

I'll have to come back and check out your links! Good slash is always a must-- there's a lot of bad slash out there, definitely. ;)
Fate3fates3 on June 14th, 2007 03:19 am (UTC)
not a problem, I hope you enjoy the stories!

And spanking...I just can totally NOT get into spanking, no matter in what form. I've read it in het, I've read it in gen, and I've read it in slash, and I don't like it. At all. It's just...unappealing to me.

I read a fic where it ended up that Blair was Jim's illegitimate younger half brother, and I was pleasantly surprised how good it turned out! I really liked that one. Damn, if I can remember where it was posted, I can give you the link. But so much of that stuff I just saved to computer and didn't keep links, LOL!
