So close.

Not in Kansas all those years ago—it doesn't collect its many children when they're young.

Not in Chicago, though it would have happily taken the father or brother then. Fierce souls are nearly as succulent as those of innocence.

Not in the hospital, where John Winchester gave his life for the other son and never knew that it was a wash either way, where Fate was concerned.

Just now, it walked around inside the dark-bright boy for awhile, blackening his soul with the Hunter's blood that covered his hands.

But not yet. So close. But not yet.

:D Creepy is definitely different for me. And I didn't want to give away the drabble by saying whose POV it was. :0

Yes-- I almost feel like it was taunting Sam by taking hold of his body for awhile and using it.

Just to show that it could. *shudders*

It's like it's chipping away at Sam's essence bit by bit.
And what's more... it's working.

Sam's confidence that he's not going to eventually become evil appears to be diminishing over time, and this is part of the reason why. Getting inside of Sam and making him do what it wanted-- gah. What a blow that would be.

Ah, I can't even articulate what I feel for this. Such huge weight in such a tiny piece.

Yes-- it's like the Demon's been toying with them all this time, and they really have absolutely no idea of what they're up against. :0

I never thought I'd be writing in a fandom where "creepy" would be one of my most-loved comments, but it's true. Everything about the demon should be creepy deep down, where the evil resides undiluted by the veneer of charm.

creepy. altho everything with the demon is....

"Creepy" is the best comment ever for this kind of story. I just so often think that the boys and John underestimated what they were dealing with-- and part of the creepiness is in knowing that they're still running toward it and they are nowhere near prepared for what they'll get.

Would it be bad to say I really liked this piece?
I love it when evil is EVIL.
What the hell else should it be? Evil lite?

I love the aspect that humans are just children in this life and that there are things far older and more knowing than we could ever be.

I think the classic belief that if they hold true to simple truths and a lot a faith they can defeat anything. That thinking(and revenge) is what drives the Winchesters to fight.

There is so much unknown and they still choose to fight and if they knew what they actually fought they would never leave the house again. Or would it be in their own arrogance belief that good WILL triumph over evil?

Love, love, love this piece.

That comment cracked me up. It's so true!

This is such an important question, and you entirely caught the mood of the piece. The thing they're chasing is so much more dangerous than they think, and they are so woefully unprepared. And yet, your question stands: would they do it anyway, either because they must or because they so badly underestimate what's waiting for them?

Love, love, love this piece.
Yay! Thank you! I so rarely write "creepy" at all, and I don't think I've ever written the Demon's POV before. The prompt just kicked off such a different idea.

I'm glad you went with it. I think it worked out really well.

I think Dean would fight anyway. He in particular truly doesn't have anything else in his life. Sam on the other hand just might step back and try to make something of his life. Even if its just taking care of ... you know... evil lite!

:D Actually, POVs like this surprise me when they come-- because it isn't often!

Oh, that was deliciously creepy. *shivers*

I really like "dark-bright boy" as a descriptor for Sam, and how vivid this is.

:D I will never tire of hearing that, for the perhaps 3 stories/drabbles so far where it's been true! It's kind of unfamiliar territory, but some ideas just really bring it out.

I chose that because it's how the Demon sees him-- it has seen Sam change over time (darken, thanks to the lifestyle the Winchesters led), and may see where it thinks Sam is headed (to something far worse). And yet those traces of innocence and virtue must shine so very, very brightly.

Pure Evil - calculating and wanting and YES. Very Pretty :)

Thank you!

Yes, that's exactly what this is. So much more dark and dangerous than the Winchesters ever imagined. *brrrr*

Ooh, this has a wonderfully creepy feel to it. Great narrative voice, and I especially loved this line:

Fierce souls are nearly as succulent as those of innocence.

Shivery.

I'm so glad someone noticed that line! It's so menacing, and gives you such a feeling for all that the Demon so loves to destroy.

Glad the creepy mood came out so well in just a drabble-- I really liked the difference of doing this POV, and how it sees the battle with the Winchesters shaping up.
