Randomness and Movie Meme
Still cleaning up the house from holidays and the Great Purge. All our Christmas decorations are still out, which will be put away this weekend (oh, joy). Except that I think there might be a mad dash on the tree tonight, because the Boy Scouts are probably doing pickup tomorrow. :0

It is frickin' freezing here right now, and windy. The outdoor bike ride potential does not look good, and I spent two days on the elliptical trainer at the gym while the bike was getting a tuneup. My last ride was Tuesday, and I went out very late and used the Ostrich method of telling myself that it wasn't THAT late and I wouldn't run out of daylight. Riiiiight. I spent the last part of the ride trying to speed back up out of the parkway before total darkness (thank you, full moon!) and worrying about deer jumping out in front of the bike. Deer and coyotes really like that time of day. In my right mind, I'd remember that skunks do too, and I'd make an effort to get out earlier.

Biscotti rant later. And now, I was tagged by lady_iz for this:

Is someone a John Cusack fan? Hmmm, hmmm?

I love Say Anything. One of the best teen movies ever, and doesn't have a teen movie feel to it at all.

I never hear Peter Gabriel that I don't see John Cusack in my head with a boom box (or as we called them then, a ghetto blaster) and that tragic, defiant look on his face. *sigh* Thanks for the memory.

:D I am. I've seen most of his movies, in fact, and we bought "Better Off Dead" because we kept renting it and finally the video store didn't want to own it anymore. :0

That's it, in a nutshell. I really don't like "teen" movies. After "Heathers" and "Say Anything," that's most of what I can stand. But this movie transcends that. It's more about people than it is about teens.

And I'm a sucker for the ending, where he alone is who will visit the John Mahone character and try to cheer him up, and they guy just doesn't see that Lloyd's character with people far exceeds most of the things that other people think are "important" in a person. You've got to love Lloyd Dobbler. :D

There are so many great lines in Say Anything, too. I'm going to have to watch it this evening, you got me all stirred up.

"Hi, Joe. How are you? I love you. You invade my soul."

"Don't be a guy. The world is full of guys. Be a man."

"I draw the line at 7 unreturned phone calls."

"You must chill! You must chill!"

Besides the sweetest kiss ever when he's teaching her how to drive....*sigh* Definitely know what I'm doing for my friday night....

"Don't be a guy. The world is full of guys. Be a man."
This is actually one of my favorite movie lines ever. Because you know exactly what she means, and is it ever true.

Also, the Gas N Sip scene always cracks me up, and we quote from that one too:
Jeremy Piven: I had a girl break up with me once. And she hurt me, really bad. I don't ever want to go through that again.
Random Dude: Oh, man, you're bringing me down!
Joe: Yeah, man SHUT UP!

Plus the "By choice, man." "Yeah, man-- by choice." And the "Dissed in the Malibu, doesn't know what to do. Lloyd, Lloyd all null-and-void..." Love that insta-rap song.

Geez, now I'm probably going to be watching it again soon! Jon Cusack rules! :D

I loved *Dissed in the Malibu* too.

I watched it last night and was struck by how much John hasn't changed. He was only 22 or so when that film was done, and he still looks relatively the same. Just interesting.

Jeremy Piven is always a treat, and he pops up in so many Cusack movies :)
