Greener Pastures
They stayed on their uncle's farm for three weeks once, eating fruit off bushes and helping out with the chores. All that nothingness was refreshing compared to moving around the country and watching Dad worry.

Dean made crop circles on a sheep, but Sam didn't buy it. Sam tried to pass off chicken crap as ectoplasm, but Dean cuffed him on the head.

Finally, Sam treed Dean in the orchard, sitting below with an apple and enjoying the day.

"I can wait here pretty much forever," he taunted.

That lasted ten seconds before Dean won by pelting him with pears.

Not Unnoticed
When Sam was little, Dad sometimes took them to the forest.

Sam stayed with Dean near the car, while Dad went further into the forest alone. He wondered what Dad did then, with the weapons and the bag of supplies. But Dad said it was dangerous—they couldn't follow him. They'd be safe as long as they stayed put.

Sam waited in sunlight, rain and snowfall, always keeping close to Dean. The forest unnerved him, and he watched it carefully. It was like the trees were listening.

Years later, when he hunted with Dean, Sam realized that he'd been right.

SO wonderful, this.

Thank you! That was the first thing that came to me with that prompt-- the spooky nature of the forest, and how children can feel vulnerable, as if the forest is somehow alive. And as Sam comes to find later, it actually IS. Brrrr.

Children perceive things we adults have long since forgotten how to know... which is cool/sad/creepy, yes?

And we -know- how Sam is.

Just read your Pirate!fic, too. The Black Angel one. You do have a way with language. =]

Thank you so much! Oh, the Pirate!Fics... this is what happens when you let comms assign random prompts to you. It's funny that I wrote two of them when I didn't want to even write one. But they definitely liven up the fandom. :0
