Mozzie thunked his wine glass down on the coffee table. "I am not the Cowardly Lion—why would you even say that?"

Neal shrugged. "He's kind of a worrier, and you worry a lot."

"I'm a planner," Mozzie said. He lifted his glass again and sipped more of the passable Bordeaux. "I like to be aware of risks, and plan accordingly."

Neal spread Brie on a sesame cracker. "You could always be Toto."

Mozzie scowled. "That sounds suspiciously like a stereotypical assignment related to my height."

'All right, then," Neal said, relaxing back against the couch. "Who do you think you'd be?"

"The Wizard, of course," Mozzie said grandly.

"The con man with a soft spot for people in need… Wait." Neal sat up straight. "I want to be the Wizard."

"Too late."

Neal reached for the grapes. "Who, then?"

"Well, there aren't any kings or princes, but you could always be Dorothy. She's the star."

"Right," Neal said. "The wide-eyed, clueless character who's more brainless than the Scarecrow."

Mozzie shrugged. "How about the Tin Man?"

Neal laughed. "That's Peter. Serious, upstanding, good-hearted, and always the grownup. Elizabeth, though…"

"Mrs. Suit is definitely Glinda. Beautiful and kind, and she'd stand up to the Wicked Witch no matter what it took."

Wow, Neal thought. That was kind of telling. "I'd actually been thinking of June as Glinda. I can't imagine who else she'd be."

Mozzie shook his head. "No doubling up."

"These character archetypes are terrible. We need a different source. Maybe Peter Pan?"

"Peter Pan is obviously you."

"Or maybe not," Neal sighed. "Let's just watch the movie."

Mozzie looked over at him. "I believe Toto's still available…"

Neal turned up the volume on the television. "Not a chance, Moz. Not a chance."

Hee! WC really doesn't have anybody to be the Scarecrow or Dorothy. This is great!

I can see Reese as the Scarecrow somehow-- watching over everyone, and smarter than the Bureau thought he was.

But Dorothy? Ack.

Thanks for reading!

OK now I'm going to be assigning them Wizard of OZ characters..
Great story.

That prompt really created something fun and unexpected. I wouldn't have thought of this at all, without it.

Though I have and do play that game all the time, for various movies and TV shows... :D

LOL this is great. :)

They're lucky to have 2 Glindas in their life.

I agree, and I think both are well qualified as Glindas. :D

I never knew quite what to make of Auntie Em, in that she loved Dorothy to pieces... but her screeching voice would have sent me on the run. :O

Very, very cool. Now I feel like I have to find a story for them to play in. Thanks for posting!

Casting people you know as characters in a movie/story is right on par with RE-casting movies with modern actors or with someone you feel fits the part better. How could Neal and Mozzie resist? :D

LOL! Great idea! Oh boys! :)

I have to thank the prompt-- I passed it up for writing original-fiction horror, and then later thought, "Wait. How could I use this for fanfic?" The answer to THAT soon became obvious. :D

Hee! This is great! :D I can hear the entire conversation in their voices.

I have always thought that June would be Glinda but Elizabeth would be perfect for that part too. I could never decide on Dorothy either.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: White Collar- Neal & Peterhalfshellvenus on January 29th, 2014 07:34 am (UTC)
I think Dorothy is a part nobody wants, not once they're older than about 7 or 8!

That's the funny thing about this kind of speculation, too-- there are some parts that can't be fit in a given situation. Really, I think "Tin Man" would be easier to match up than The Wizard of Oz with this cast!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Loved this! I'll never be able to watch The Wizard of Oz the same way ever again. :)

And the question is, do you secretly agree that Mozzie might actually BE the Cowardly Lion? ;)

Thanks for reading!

I can totally see them having this conversation, great job!

Aw, sorry I'm so late with leaving a comment... but I love this, LOL, I can totally see them having this debate, I think Tiles of Fire was the first clue that watching a movie with Moz is really not a regular experience :D And I love Neal for getting so involved :D

So glad you enjoyed it! It seemed so Neal and Mozzie to me, and I know what you mean about Tiles of Fire (so gloriously dreadful)-- we just rewatched the episode with that recently.

Well, you know Mozzie. There will always, somehow, be meanings behind meanings AND the opportunity for a debate. :D
